Berries? (243/365)

~ Charles Dickens

TIME: 12:30 PM
PLACE: Podunk V2

These are a bird's friend in the winter ... and they will save them for just that time!

~*~*~

"Our neighborhood needed a coffee shop."
~ Rosemary Gonzales

TIME: 7:00 PM

Cam had another church event tonight, which means I had another opportunity to spend my evening at Caribou. But tonight, I lived dangerously - I had a Northern Lite Cooler - I've NEVER had an iced coffee before *gasp*

Killer (239/365)

~*~*~

“Anxiety is love's greatest killer. It makes others feel as you might when a drowning man holds on to you. You want to save him, but you know he will strangle you with his panic.”
~ Anais Nin

TIME: 7:20 AM
PLACE: Home Sweet Home
SUBJECT: Killer

I didn't notice he was on the window of my car until after I sat down inside. I can see the look on his face - plotting and planning to get me!

Locker (237/365)

~*~*~

Remember, I'm the kind of kid who used to get stuffed into a locker by school bullies. I've never felt like I'm a big star at any level of my life.
~ Winona Ryder

TIME: 7:00 PM
PLACE: Church
SUBJECT: Locker

Middle School youth ministry is back in action and I am serving with them again. I decided to stay with the middle-schoolers rather than move up to the high school youth group to give Cam a little more independence ... and because it seems to be difficult to find volunteers for the middle school kids. Hmmmm ...

I just hide inside of the locker and wait until they're gone!

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web.

Frank the Pug: J! Wait up! I appreciate this shot man. Thought I'd never get out of that mailroom.
Agent J: Lose the suit!
Frank the Pug: Sure thing partner. No problemo. Just going for the look. But if I say so myself, I do find the overall effect very slimming!

Theater (232/365)

~*~*~

Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past.
~ Field of Dreams

TIME: 10:30 PM
PLACE: Stage Coach Theater
SUBJECT: "Leaving Iowa"

I have a co-worker - Norm - who is annoyingly actively involved in community theater. This year, he decided he would give directing a shot. In a moment of selflessness, another co-worker and I decided we would support his passion and attend his production. I almost hate to admit it, but it was really well done.

~ Charles Pierce

TIME: 7:00 PM
PLACE: Home Sweet Home

We have a local pizza joint here in Podunk that makes one of the few pizzas I'll eat - a Caprese Pizza. The crust is brushed with olive oil (no red sauce), then topped with fresh garlic, basil, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. YUM!

Shopping. I hate it. I walk into a store and am overwhelmed with all of the people, smells, things, choices ... shopping carts.

Photography (229/365)

~*~*~

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
~ Elliott Erwitt

TIME: 7:30 PM
PLACE: Home Sweet Home
SUBJECT: Photography

Hi! My name is Dana and I have dSLR envy.

Some of the Project 365 peeps that I follow have recently gotten new cameras and are taking amazing photos with them. Then there was the photowalk. I wanted a new camera - one that would take better photos than my silly little point-and-shoot.

After much thought - and some serious price checking - I decided it was better to start with improving the photographer than it was to start with improving the equipment. I'll be taking this class in the fall!

Photowalk (227/365)

~*~*~

TIME: 11:45 AM
PLACE: Fermilab
SUBJECT: Photowalk

Our last stop was, ironically, where it all begins - The Cockcroft-Walton. The Cockcroft Walton is where every beam starts. Small amounts of Hydrogen gas get hit with 750,000 electron volts which starts the beam on its way. It is one of the oldest technologies on the Fermilab site.

~*~*~

TIME: 11:00 AM
PLACE: Fermilab

This is from the New Muon Lab. This area will soon house a small scale test accelerator. It is to test the feasibility of making a large scale linear accelerator out of superconducting radio frequency cavities, which could someday could lead to a new generation of accelerators.

TIME: 10:15 AM

The next stop was Meson Lab. This building houses the testing area for new accelerator technologies are tested and a test beam area where new detector ideas are tried, tested and calibrated.

In case anyone is curious, yes - the reflection was intentional!

Photowalk (223/365)

~*~*~

TIME: 09:45 AM
PLACE: Fermilab
SUBJECT: Photowalk

The PBar Tunnel (or Anti-Proton Tunnel). This tunnel has two accelerators that are used to store and re-inject the antimatter particles back into a bigger accelerator (named the Tevatron), where they are forced to collide with Protons. These mater and antimatter collisions happen at point around the Tevatron where giant detectors record the events.

~*~*~

TIME: 09:15 AM
PLACE: Fermilab
SUBJECT: Photowalk

This was building AZero - In this building Fermilab is testing new ways of making beams for acceleration. Inside the cave is this test set-up called the Photo Injector. In the Photo Injector a laser is used to strike a cathode and make particles that can then be used to make a beam.

Of course the word chaos is used in rather a vague sense by a lot of writers, but in physics it means a particular phenomenon, namely that in a nonlinear system the outcome is often indefinitely, arbitrarily sensitive to tiny changes in the initial condition.
~ Murray Gell-Mann

TIME: 12:30 PM
PLACE: Fermilab
SUBJECT: Photowalk

I almost didn't go. I knew this was a photographer's event, not a science geek event, and I align much closer with the latter. With the exception of a handful of science geek photographers, I was right. Fortunately, there was no judgment. I was treated with the same respect as those with professional quality dSLRs, tripods and camera bags filled with multiple lenses.

I'm glad I went.

Corner (216/365)

~*~*~

All great deeds and all great thoughts have a ridiculous beginning. Great works are often born on a street corner or in a restaurant's revolving door.
~ Albert Camus

TIME: 6:30 PM
PLACE: Podunk Illinois
SUBJECT: Corner

In Podunk, and in Podunks across the country, there are often landmarks that break of the otherwise nondescript landscape. Alan's corner is one of two Podunk Landmarks. A towing service, a garage, and a restaurant with some of he best food but only 20 seats (think greasy spoon) all hang out on Allen's Corner - a crossroads between I-90 and the outskirts of Podunk.

~ Mark Twain

Drummer (213/365)

~ Henry David Thoreau

TIME: 11:15 AM
PLACE: Home Sweet Home
SUBJECT: Drummer

Cam marched in his first parade today. I must admit, I never expected to see one of these in the back of my car, but I think my different drummer may have finally found a way to step to the music which he hears.
