Cutie-Pie (212/365)

~*~*~

The Bride: Where's Bill?
Buck: Please stop hitting me...
The Bride: WHERE'S BILL?
Buck: I-I don't know who Bill is!
The Bride: BULLSHIT!
Buck: Well, ain't you the little slice of cutie pie they said you were. "Jane Doe," huh? Well, we don't know shit about you, huh? Well, I'm from Huntsville, Texas. My name is Buck, and I'm here to fuck, ha-ha-ha...
~ Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

TIME: 9:00 PM
PLACE: Home Sweet Home
SUBJECT: Cutie-Pie

I bought this teapot on my St. Louis road trip. Sujomi took me to a flea market my last day in town. I saw this teapot and had to have her. When I asked about the price, I made a mental note that if she was $10 or less, she'd be mine. She was $10.

I did a little research today and learned that she is quite the collectible. Made by a company called Napco (National Potteries Corporation) that started up in 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio. She's worth quite a bit more than I paid for her, but I don't love her for her monetary value, I love her because she's a Cutie-Pie!

~*~*~

“The noisiest drum has nothing in it but air”
~ English Proverb

TIME: 8:00 PM
PLACE: Home Sweet Home
SUBJECT: Bass Drum

Cam came home from band camp tonight. All reports are that he took to the bass drum quite well. He also discovered that marching with a base drum hanging from your shoulders, in 90 degree heat, for hours on end, is one hell of a workout!

Bridal Shower (209/365)

Marriage is like a hot bath. Once you get used to it, it's not so hot
~ unknown

TIME: 12:00 PM
PLACE: Cubicle Hell
SUBJECT: Bridal shower

A co-worker is getting married this weekend and we had a bridal shower for her at work today. I was thrilled when I was asked to take photos - it meant the requirement for me to make small talk was greatly diminished!

Chinese (208/365)

~*~*~

“Never eat Chinese food in Oklahoma.”
~ Bryan Miller

TIME: 6:30 PM
PLACE: DeKalb
SUBJECT: Chinese Food

I did something tonight I have never done before - I went to a Chinese buffet - ALONE!
Guess what? It wasn't the end of the world, surprisingly!

Does anyone else ever wonder if the Chinese writing really does
translate onto the English restaurant name?

Bicycle (203/365)

~*~*~

“The hardest part of raising a child is teaching them to ride bicycles. A shaky child on a bicycle for the first time needs both support and freedom. The realization that this is what the child will always need can hit hard.”
~ Sloan Wilson

TIME: 6:00 PM
PLACE: Village Pedaler
SUBJECT: Bicycle

One of the smartest things I did was purchase Cam's bike from a reputable bike shop. Tonight, Cam and I took his bike in to get the rear tire tube changed and to get his crank adjusted. I only pay for parts - lifetime adjustments are included for any bike purchased from this shop. With Cam's bike being his primary mode of transportation, this is a really good thing!

Dresses (200/365)

~*~*~

“A woman's dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.”
~ Sophia Loren

TIME: 7:00 PM
PLACE: The Hill, St. Louis
SUBJECT: Dresses

No, I didn't go back to St. Louis today, just had a few more photos I really wanted to share. This one is a reminder that you really should take notes (or at least a photo with the store name) when shooting in an unfamiliar city. There was a dress shop on The Hill that had to dress mannequins - with formal dresses on - in front of the store. Lace makes me smile ...

In addition to being a fabulous photographer, Sujomi is also quite creative with fabric. Imagine my surprise when she presented me with a birthday gift upon my arrival. Better yet? It's a purse ... ummm ... errrr ... BAG ... because I would never carry a purse. Nope! Not me! I'm not that girlie, but I adore my bag!

Arch (197/365)

~*~*~

“I've decided life is too fragile to finish a book I dislike just because it cost $16.95 and everyone else loved it. Or eat a fried egg with a broken yolk (which I hate) when the dog would leap over the St. Louis Arch for it.”
~ Erma Bombeck

TIME: 11:00 AM
PLACE: St. Louis
SUBJECT: Arch

Took a little road trip from Podunk to visit Sujomi, her Handsome Husband and their three musketeers. Although there were many highlights, one of them was definitely the trip to the Arch. My tour of St. Louis started here and what a wonderful place for it to start!

Back In Time (195/365)

~*~*~

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time.
~ John Lubbock

High School (193/365)

~*~*~

“The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating...

...and you finish off as an orgasm.”
~ George Carlin

TIME: 6:00 PM
PLACE: Podunk Illinois
SUBJECT: High School

I had to visit the high school that Cam should be attending this fall. He had to be registered in his "home school" but will be attending classes - indefinitely - at a therapeutic day school. Having to go through the freshman registration process, knowing it was just an administrative requirement - was heartbreaking.

~ Francis Bacon, Sr.

I've discovered that I see more now that I'm participating in Project 365. Last week, Sujomi posted a pic she titled "Flower Fireworks" - it was the coolest flower I've ever seen! All of a sudden I started seeing the same flower everywhere and today took a photo of a summer snowflake!

Her's is much cooler!

We had a toilet seat failure Wednesday. I don't even want to know how it happened, but the toilet seat actually broke in half some time while I was at work (Cam was home). Wednesday night I made a quick stop at Menards to select a new one. I probably should have gone with Sponge Bob, huh??

Independence (185/365)

~*~*~

“Independence? That's middle class blasphemy. We are all dependent on one another, every soul of us on earth.”
~ George Bernard Shaw

TIME: 10:00 PM
PLACE: Podunk Illinois
SUBJECT: Independence

Since moving to Podunk, there has been a neighborhood rivalry of sorts on the 4th of July. It's a battle of illegal fireworks and who can put together the best display without going to jail. There is much taunting leading up to the evening of the 4th - M80's exchanged between parties
in the middle of the night - posturing prior to the big display.

In the past, I've been kind of a party pooper, worrying about the expense, safety and the legality of it all. This year? I was in a much different frame of mind and let myself have a good time - and a good time is what I had. It felt wonderful to let loose of all of the crap and just enjoy the moment. I think I might just be finding my own independence!

We would load up the yellow Cutlass Supreme station wagon and pick blackberries during blackberry season or spring onions during spring onion season. For us, food was part of the fabric of our day.
~ Mario Batali

TIME: 2:00 PM
PLACE: Podunk Illinois
SUBJECT: Blackberry

I can't look at a blackberry bush without thinking about my grandfather. He was an avid picker - GALLONS of them every summer - and he would stop anywhere, without shame, to secure their sweetness. Blackberries make me smile!
